Module 3 Developing Intervention Plans
Each classroom has a wide mix of needs and skills. Much like I approach lesson planning with individual interests, skills, and needs in mind, I also approach behavior supports. When students display consistent challenging behaviors and universal supports are not meeting their needs, it is important to look more closely and design an intervention plan that is specific to the student and the behavior. This process may include identifying a clear target behavior, collecting baseline data, and developing a plan for intervention, progress monitoring, and implementation fidelity. Supports can take many forms and should be adjusted as students develop greater independence. This is why schoolwide PBIS and social-emotional learning instruction are so valuable. Proactive, positive supports can establish clear expectations and help create predictable learning environments where students can learn the skills they need to succeed (Center on PBIS, n.d.).
